Enjoy 'Unlocked Voices' in Withernsea
A virtual music making project has been taking place in Withernsea with Manchester Camerata during the last few months to help ease social isolation and make people feel better during these unprecedented times. Working with Withernsea Ladies Choir, composer Richard Taylor and musicians from Manchester Camerata, participants have composed a deeply moving new piece - 'Unlocked Voices'.
Not only have the singers composed their own music during their online workshops, they have formed a 'kitchen' samba band, have had performances from Manchester Camerata musicians and taken part in mindfulness movement in association with Active Withernsea, the town's sport and wellbeing organisation.
The Unlocked Voices song forms part of a specially commissioned film, which will be premiered online on 9 December, 2020 at 8pm. The film includes performances of Unlocked Voices as well as Pictures of the Mind, a beautiful piece composed with residents from eight local care homes and the Withernsea Overture - a medley that celebrates the music created by the people of Withernsea with Manchester Camerata over the last four years.
Emma Arnold, who has been co-ordinating the project for Manchester Camerata, is delighted with the new piece of music. "We really wanted to help the town have a voice by creating a new piece of music to share with everyone in the community, particularly the care homes we've been working with, where staff are working so hard to look after their residents."
