East Riding residents who have never been switched energy suppliers before are being encouraged to have the hassle taken out of switching, and have everything taken care of by the YORSwitch team.

The YORSwitch scheme, run by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, could help residents save money, especially as now is the ideal time to switch because the Ofgem Default Tariff Cap is rising by £96 from Thursday, 1 April.

This means that residents currently on, or who are moving to a Standard Variable Tariff, will likely see an increase, after a year where many residents are perhaps suffering financial difficulty due to the ongoing pandemic.

Since 2013, YORSwitch has helped more than 35,000 households switch their energy tariffs, saving more than an incredible £7.4million - with over £1m saved in 2020 alone.

Shell Energy are the winning provider in this round of YORSwitch and residents have one week to take advantage of the offer and switch their energy. To see how much could be saved visit www.eastriding.gov.uk/yorswitch

If a decision is taken to switch, it is very simple to do as the council's YORSwitch team will take care of the entire switching process.

Councillor Chris Matthews, portfolio holder for strategic property and infrastructure at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "The YORSwitch scheme could be of great benefit for residents not only affected by financial burdens that have resulted from the pandemic in the past year, but also through the April increase on the Standard Variable Tariff.

"These changes do have an effect on finances, so we encourage residents to get in touch with our YORSwitch team to see if a saving can be made."

The team can help residents interested in fixing their energy bills with Shell Energy - by registering by phone or online - and they will receive an instant quote. Please call (01482) 393939 and a member of the team will be able to help or visit www.eryc.link/yorswitch (please have a recent energy bill to hand, as we will need recent energy information).
