Visit Sewerby Hall and Gardens this half term if you dare, for Spooky Sewerby!
Sewerby Hall and Gardens will become Spooky Sewerby during the half term holidays, with events and fun for all the family.
From Saturday, 23 October until Hallowe'en on Sunday, 31 October, explore the Hallowe'en Spooky Gardens each day between 10am and 3pm, and find the spooky characters.
On Sunday, 24 October, there will be Weird Wildcats Webs and other spooky crafts from 10.30am to 2.30pm, a chance to create chilling critters and design dreadful decorations in a bewitching beasts and bauble bonanza session. This is an outdoor event and children must be accompanied throughout.
Monday, 25 October will see a Rusticus Lantern Making Workshop from 10.30am - 3pm. Join the medieval man of the woods, John Forrester, as he shares the secrets of withy lantern making! John has everything for families to enjoy designing and making their very own lanterns together. Participants can bring their lanterns on the Rusticus Lantern Adventure on Tuesday, 26 October. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout. Sessions will be from 10.30am -12.15pm and 1pm-3pm.
On Tuesday, 26 October, a chance to join the outdoor Rusticus Lantern Adventure, between 11.30am and 3.15pm. Journey by lantern-light into the grounds and meet the most iconic crepuscular creatures - magnificent moth, barmy bat and bashful barn owl, as they show why dusk is the most magical time of day. Bring torches and lanterns, strong footwear and dress for the weather in this fun atmospheric adventure suitable for all the family.
Wednesday, 27 October will be a Spooky Magic Day and Face Painting, from 10.30am - 3.30pm. Professor Bubbles will be awaiting, for his spectacular spooky magic show. Come dressed for the occasion for a day of spooky fun and games with Spooky Hallowe'en Magic Shows at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. The professional face painter will also be available between 10.30am until 3.30pm. Visitors are encouraged to pre book as places will be limited in the Orangery. On Thursday, 28 October, there will be a Rusticus Ghost-Hunting Adventure, from 11.30am - 3.15pm. The hapless professor is on the hunt for ghosts, but the spooks and spectres are playing tricks on him. Help him make sense of his latest ghost-detecting invention and have fun making mischief in the woods, with a whole array of ghostly characters. Bring torches and lanterns, strong footwear and dress for the weather in this fun atmospheric adventure suitable for all the family.
Friday, 29 October will feature Hallowe'en Crafts from 11am - 3pm. Get ready for Hallowe'en and create spooky trick or treat bags in the Orangery and make a wish. No need to book ahead, but please be aware there may be a need to wait during popular times due to limited capacity inside the Orangery. Suitable for all ages, but aimed especially at 0-12. There will also be a zoo workshop from 11am to 12 noon : Spooky Halloween Fat Balls - a chance to make fat ball feeders to take home.

On Hallowe'en itself, Sunday 31 October, the week will be rounded off by a Rusticus Wizarding Adventure, from 11.30am - 3.15pm. The Arch-wizard Fumblefoot has called a Great Wizard Gathering , which will be an opportunity to conjure, to magic and to ward off the dragon attack from the ancient prophecy and save the world (and Sewerby!) from a fiery future. Dress like a magical character to enjoy this fun atmospheric adventure, suitable for all the family.
Visitors will also be to go to the zoo and see the recent new arrivals , including Pickle the handreared penguin, and the new baby llama.
Visitors can also download the Love Exploring app, and enjoy the brand new Love Exploring Halloween Dance Trail, from Saturday, 23 October to Sunday, 31 October. The house will also be open each day from 11.30am to 3.30pm with a Halloween I-Spy activity.
